Wintermute USA, a New York-based subsidiary, has registered as a broker-dealer with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission and the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority. The firm plans to expand into trading traditional equities and commodities. The registered entity can provide liquidity to U.S. securities exchanges and over-the-counter counterparties, trade stocks and options from its proprietary account, self-clear digital asset securities transactions, and act as an Authorized Participant for exchange-traded products, including those linked to digital assets. A broker-dealer executes trades for clients and trades securities for its own account, while an Authorized Participant creates and redeems large blocks of ETF shares. Wintermute's CEO Evgeny Gaevoy emphasized the parallel development of digital assets and traditional finance. The firm's move into traditional assets coincides with a rise in tokenization, although the SEC has indicated that onchain securities activities require appropriate licensure. Earlier this year, Wintermute announced plans to market-make for tokenized gold and provide liquidity for prediction markets. The firm facilitates over 10 billion dollars in average daily trading volume across more than 60 exchanges globally.
