Machines cannot use human banks; they can only use blockchain.

Written by: Raoul Pal, Founder of Real Vision

    Compiled by: Luffy, Foresight News

In about two years, the vast majority of economic activities in the world will no longer involve human participation.

Imagine a current transaction: one person initiates the transaction, another verifies it, someone records it, and yet another completes the settlement. Now, remove all humans. Intelligent agents capture trading opportunities, borrow funds to establish positions, hedge with a second agent, and settle with a third agent. The entire process is completed automatically in an instant. Billions of agents repeat this scene day in and day out, every moment.

This has already quietly begun around us. You just can’t see it; its operating speed is millions of times faster than human thought.

But why are we connecting billions of robots to the economic system?

The root cause lies in the old economy facing labor depletion. There are essentially two paths for economic growth: increasing the labor force or enhancing the productivity of existing workers. For decades, Western countries have achieved both. Now, neither exists. Birth rates have been declining for decades, and the labor force continues to shrink; the productivity capacity of an aging society is far below that of a younger society. Growth has thus vanished.

When governments cannot achieve economic growth, there is only one way out: to incur debt while printing money to repay it. Over time, currency continues to depreciate each year. This is why you feel that the cash in your hands is constantly shrinking, while the increases in housing prices and stock prices always outpace wages.

Humans cannot solve this dilemma. We cannot create laborers who have never been born. Governments around the world are well aware of this, which is why they keep incurring debt.

Thus, we need to create a new labor force made of silicon.

    Machines Cannot Use Human Banks

For silicon-based labor to operate, transactions must occur. Millions of times per second, machines buy and sell, settle with each other. But when considering what medium machines should use to complete transactions, they hit a wall: they cannot use the banking system. The entire banking system is designed for humans and is completely unsuitable for machines.

First is the account opening process. Banks need to verify your identity, perform various checks, and confirm that you are a real person before you qualify to hold an account. Machines cannot meet these conditions. Software programs themselves do not have bank accounts; the banking system was never designed for this from the start.

Next, consider the currency itself. The smallest unit that banks can process is one cent. But intelligent agents need to handle transactions far smaller than this: a single data query, a small portion of computational resources, calling another agent’s service, all require payments far below one cent, and these transactions occur millions of times per second. The traditional financial system cannot even express such small payments, let alone process billions of transactions per second.

Even for payments that can be processed, the speed is extremely slow. Cross-border remittances often take days, and funds do not go directly through; they must pass through layers of intermediary banks, each layer deducting fees and consuming time, with each step requiring manual recording and verification. By the time the weekend arrives and banks close, the entire system comes to a halt. Humans can tolerate a few remittances each month. But for machines, thousands of transactions must be settled in the time it takes you to read a sentence; this system is completely unusable.

In contrast, the blockchain that machines can use, on an appropriate public chain, requires only about 300 milliseconds for a cross-border payment from start to finish. No intermediaries, no layers of deductions, and no waiting for business days. No account opening is needed; the wallet itself serves as an identity identifier. Pricing precision can reach up to 18 decimal places, and payment amounts can be infinitely subdivided based on business needs. It operates year-round without interruption. More critically, it is programmable: currency can come with execution logic; payment is triggered only upon delivery of work; funds can be automatically distributed to ten agents; refunds occur automatically if conditions are not met, all without human approval.

This is the core value. It is not just a faster bank. Banks slowly circulate funds between people, limited to business days; whereas blockchain transmits value instantaneously between machines, operating continuously year-round, with transaction rules directly embedded in the payment. The two are solving completely different problems, and only the latter can support a machine-driven economy.

This is the true significance of the cryptocurrency industry, unrelated to token prices. The machine economy must have a place to settle, and blockchain is the only viable settlement channel. Value will ultimately settle in these underlying infrastructures, with all applications built upon them.

Why You Are Unaware of This

None of this is deliberately hidden from you; it simply occurs in dimensions that human senses cannot capture.

Silicon chips process information at millions of times the speed of human neurons. All strange phenomena stem from this. Intelligent agents do not browse the web pages you see or use the screens you use. They interact at high speeds using their own protocols, forming and dismantling collaborative networks far beyond human perception.

It’s like observing a river versus observing individual water molecules in the river. You can see the entire river but not the water molecules. This is the invisible economy, operating in an orderly manner, yet existing beyond the boundaries of human perception.

    Tokenization of Everything

There is a specialized term to describe all these data flows; it sounds professional and obscure, which is precisely why people underestimate it: tokenization.

Many people understand tokenization merely as moving stocks onto the blockchain: tokenized stocks, tokenized bonds, tokenized real estate. These do exist, but they are just a small, mundane corner of the grand future picture.

The true essence of tokenization is much broader; it is essentially a data packet of information. This is also why the tokens used by AI models share the same term as blockchain tokens; the underlying logic is the same. Tokenization is not a small trick of the crypto circle; it is about converting the real world into a format that machines can read. Once this is understood, a vast imaginative space can be seen.

Everything that intelligent agents need will become readable, priceable, and tradable data packets. The US dollar becomes a stablecoin; your identity becomes a verifiable credential; permissions become keys; information becomes purchasable goods. Energy, storage, computing power, all transformed into assets that can be exchanged instantaneously between machines.

In the past, data was hard to trade because there were no buyers on the other side of the market, but now there are. Massive scientific archives, climate records, soil sampling data, anonymized hospital cases, farm sensor readings, are now of little value. But when billions of intelligent agents need this data to assist in decision-making, this data gains value. Machines are willing to pay for it, and thus data is tokenized, giving birth to a market for data that never existed before.

So, this is far more than agents executing a few transactions for humans; most people's imagination stops there. We are building a global market aimed at information itself, operating on tokenized currency, while the speed of other systems simply cannot keep up. Stablecoins, lending, real-world assets (RWA), storage, identity verification—these tracks that everyone discusses separately are not independent of each other; they are part of the same machine system, just under different names. The market just hasn’t realized this yet.

How This Will Affect Our Salaries

You have probably heard a theory: machines take away jobs, leading to economic collapse. This logic is completely inverted. We are not removing humans from the economy; rather, billions of new economic participants are joining. These participants consume energy, computing power, storage, data, and settlement resources every second, far exceeding the current scale of humans. Demand will not collapse; it will instead surge.

But the real fracture is not in employment. With every technological revolution, jobs undergo renewal. What is truly being disrupted is the entire model of how humans receive compensation. Throughout human history, wages have essentially been the pricing of human time, as human labor is the most scarce resource in the economy. When labor is no longer scarce, wages are no longer a reliable mechanism for distributing social output. Pensions, mortgages, every life plan you have made is built upon this distribution system. And now, this system is about to face silicon-based labor that only requires electricity to operate.

What Position Will Humans Be In?

I have already explored the situation of humans in my article "Economic Singularity"; here is a brief summary. When intelligence becomes cheap and ubiquitous, the scarce resource becomes humans themselves: trust between people, aesthetic taste, and the real personality of face-to-face communication. Machines can replicate most things, but they cannot replicate a human individual that another person is willing to trust.

But this does not change the flow of wealth; wealth will flow to the owners of machines and the underlying infrastructures that support machine operations. And for the first time in history, anyone can hold a part of this infrastructure. Whether you are in London or in a village where ten people share a phone, you can hold an equal share.

So, go and own these underlying infrastructures. You don’t need to compete with machines in transaction speed, nor do you need to track fleeting invisible transactions. Just hold a part of this system and wait for the value to compound.
