Google Pixel 11 Released: Minor Hardware Changes, Major Gemini Features

Google has released the Pixel 11 series, with minimal changes to the overall appearance and core hardware, while continuing to shift the product focus towards AI. Compared to the previous generation, this version emphasizes Gemini's ability to perform tasks in the background, while also introducing transcription, cross-content translation, and camera assistance features.

Gemini Takes on More Delegated Tasks

Google has placed the upgrade focus of the Pixel 11 on "agent-style AI." Aimed at U.S. users, Gemini can assist with tasks such as grocery shopping, hailing rides, and ordering coffee on the phone, and can even call businesses on behalf of users to handle reservations or appointments.

Google states that users can take over or terminate operations at any time during task execution, and can also view the text records generated from AI calls. This means that Gemini is no longer just answering questions but is now directly involved in handling specific tasks.

Last year's Magic Cue has also been further integrated into Gemini. The new version will combine information from multiple applications to proactively provide contextual suggestions, such as recommending dining locations or entertainment options.

Translation and Accessibility Features Continue to Expand

The Pixel 11 also includes several AI features aimed at everyday use. The new device can provide real-time translation for videos, podcasts, and voice messages, covering a wider range of content types than before.

Google's previously announced dictation product, Rambler, has also begun to enter Pixel phones. This feature is seen as a competitor to voice transcription tools like Wispr Flow and Aqua.

In terms of accessibility, Google has introduced Gemini into the camera, adding a sign language to text feature to help hearing-impaired users communicate with others. The interface of Live Transcribe has also been adjusted to enhance real-time communication experiences.

Camera Upgrades Still Focused on AI

The camera section has added a feature called Magic Capture. It captures a large number of frames between the start and end of shooting, automatically selecting the most suitable frames to generate shareable photos. Google claims this feature will also automatically crop and reduce blur.

Zoom capabilities have also been adjusted. The super zoom on the Pro model has increased from 100x to 120x, while the standard Pixel 11 has increased from 20x to 30x. The new device also supports customizable camera styles, allowing users to apply exclusive filter effects directly while shooting.

The Pro model has introduced Instant Night Sight, which Google claims improves shooting speed by about 4.5 times compared to the previous generation's night mode. In terms of video, the new device supports 8K resolution with Video Boost and improves stabilization performance. For content creators, Google has also added a Creator Suite mode, allowing users to use the phone as a teleprompter while shooting.

Limited Hardware Changes, Price Increase for Top Model

In terms of hardware, the screen size of the Pixel 11 series remains unchanged, with the Pro model only increasing brightness. Google states that the main camera sensor of the Pro version has been updated, providing higher image quality than the previous generation, and the long-focus sensor's light intake has increased by 32%, but more specific parameters have not been disclosed.

In appearance, Google has added a ring of LED indicators around the flash on the back of the device, which can be used to display incoming calls and message notifications from favorite contacts, as well as indicate when Gemini is thinking or listening.

In terms of pricing, the Pixel 11 starts at $899, the 11 Pro at $1099, and the 11 Pro XL at $1299. The first two models are on par with the previous generation's 256GB version but have eliminated the lower-priced 128GB option; the top-end 11 Pro XL has increased by $100 compared to the previous generation. All models are available for pre-order starting today, with a base storage capacity of 256GB.
