Cryptocurrency-related crime is increasingly involving kidnappings and robberies, forcing owners to hand over digital assets. A Chainalysis report indicates that in 2025, losses from cyberattacks amounted to approximately $3.4 billion, while fraud losses reached $17 billion. In the first half of 2026, criminals extorted assets worth over $30 million, and this year's losses could exceed $58 million. Despite the rise in violence, the effectiveness of extortion has dropped to 26%, with only 12 out of 46 attempts being successful. Home invasions increased from 14% in 2025 to 37% in the first half of 2026. In France, 30 brutal cryptocurrency-related crimes have been reported since 2023. Most victims are locals, suggesting that perpetrators gather information about targets through data leaks and social media.
