AMD Acquires AI Inference Chip Startup Taalas

AMD has announced the acquisition of AI inference chip startup Taalas, with the transaction amount undisclosed. This move aims to strengthen its technological positioning in the AI inference market. AMD plans to integrate Taalas' technology into its accelerator roadmap and develop system-level solutions based on AMD Instinct GPUs. Founded in 2023 and headquartered in Toronto, Taalas focuses on developing specialized silicon chips to reduce computational and memory bottlenecks in AI inference. As AI shifts from training to real-time large-scale deployment, dedicated inference chips have become a key competitive area for semiconductor manufacturers. Taalas completed a $169 million funding round in February, bringing its total funding to approximately $219 million.
